RIBA Chartered Practice

Woodward Smith Chartered Architects LLP has grown since its predecessor practice Michael J Smith and Associates was formed in 1981. The current practice is headed up by John Woodward and Matthew Steart, both  RIBA Chartered Architects. John and Matt are supported by Practice Associate Lee Mathews and 5 permanent architectural staff; Dom, Leanne, Roxanne, Dan and Helena. Our staff hold profession qualifications with RIBA and CIAT and we are BRE Accredited Energy Assessors for new build homes and residential conversions .

The Practice specialises in planning and design for the residential and business/leisure sectors having strong and established working relationships with the local planning authorities of Exmoor, North Devon, Torridge and Mid Devon.

Utilising Autodesk 'Revit' 3D CAD Software since 2004 the practice has embraced BIM and is able to offer clients a deeper understanding of their build/project prior to the build commencing.

With the advent of virtual reality (VR) headsets our visualisations now allow clients to step inside their project; understanding and experiencing them at an even deeper level.

With a view on the Climate Emergency we seek to guide clients to more sustainable solutions that are now available but the industry has historically been slow to adopt.  Typically, these result in healthier buildings that are better for you and the planet.
